GENERAL QUESTIONS
Why should I be concerned about lint build up in my dryer's venting system? Once the lint buildup restricts the dryer's airflow, the dryer runs longer, works harder and eventually overheats which could cause a dryer fire. There are over 15,000 dryer fires annually. I clean my lint filter after every load. Should I still be concerned? Yes, lint is small enough to bypass the filter and starts to accumulate over time in your dryer and in your vents. At what point will the Dryer Lint Alarm alert me to a overheating or a clog? You will be alerted if the temperature reaches 185°. The alarm will alert you of a clog when the back pressure builds to an unsafe level. Every situation is different; it depends on the material, condition and length of the venting system. Will the Dryer Lint Alarm be affected by the dryer's heat? No, it's made of a high heat-resistant polycarbonate that is UL rated and is designed exclusively for clothes dryers. View more info on our How It Works page. |
INSTALLATION QUESTIONS
Is the Dryer Lint Alarm really a do-it-yourself installation? Yes. No tools required. The sensor attaches to the back of your dryer and then to your dryer vent. Connect the sensor to the alarm and get ready to test it! Does the Dryer Lint Alarm fit on all dryers? It fits on most gas and electrical dryers. It will not work if your dryer exhaust pipe is positioned directly in line with the dryer's exhaust duct. How much space does the Dryer Lint Alarm need behind my dryer? It takes approximately 5 inches of space behind the clothes dryer which is typically less space than the duct requires. It helps prevent the duct from being bent, crushed or kinked. Does the Dryer Lint Alarm plug into an electrical outlet? No, it runs on a 9-volt battery (included).
